Sonos Converts iPhone into Remote Control With Free App

Sonos Converts iPhone into Remote Control With Free App
  • Digg del.icio.us reddit Facebook

The list of Apple iPhone Apps seems to increase by the minute and the latest to join in is Multi Zone digital music system specialist, Sonos who has just released a free app to add remote control functionality to the iPhone.

The application which is available on iTunes will allow iPhone and Sonos users to control their Sonos digital audio system straight from their Apple device, essentially replacing the remote control.

Releasing the free application makes sense for Sonos as it would provide existing iPhone (and iPod touch) users with an added incentive to purchase Sonos devices which are known for being rather expensive (and exclusive).

The free iPhone app lowers the entry level price by removing the need to buy a USD399 remote control while making it more easier to transition to the user interface.

In addition, Sonos will also be releasing an automatic firmware which will introduce Last.fm compatibility, RadioTime support (which brings more than 15,000 free internet radio stations worldwide) and enhance support for both Rhapsody and Pandora.
