With an aim of bringing in crucial improvements in “performance, Web compatibility and speed” in its Firefox browser, Mozilla released its new Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 which it claims will provide a superb browsing experience.

The new features of the latest version of Firefox browser includes support for ‘audio’ and ‘video’ HTML tags, a new geolocation API that identifies user’s location using third party services followed by placing that information on websites and other web services.

In addition to these features, Version 3.1 boasts of a new tab switching feature that bears close resemblance to its erstwhile Ctrl-Tab feature; moreover, unlike its previous versions, Firefox 3.1 provides OGG support to its users.

With the integrated TraceMonkey engine, Firefox 3.1 offers speedy performance with Javascript, but the user is required to enable the engine manually.

TraceMonkey engine can be enabled by typing “about:config” in address bar, followed by entering “javascript.options.jit.content” in the given Filter field and then setting the item “true” by double clicking it.

You can download the latest beta version, at your own risk, here.
